Boy Scouts Celebrate 100 years of scouting - Air Show style
(Indianapolis, Indiana) – 2010 marks the 100th year of scouting for the Boy Scouts of America. In recognition of this accomplishment, the Indianapolis Air Show is offering a special discount ticket rate to Boy Scouts and their families who want to attend the 2010 show.
The Indianapolis Air Show will be held on June 12th & 13th with Friday the 11th serving as Practice and Media Day. Boy Scouts who purchase their tickets online prior to the event can receive an additional discounted ticket rate by using their special promotion code. More information regarding this special partnership can be found at CrossroadsBSA.org.
For 100 years, the Boy Scouts of America has created a strong foundation of leadership, service, and community for millions of American youth. Through A Year of Celebration, A Century of Making A Difference scouts will demonstrate and receive recognition for making a difference in their communities due to their dedication to five of Scouting’s core values: Leadership, Character, Community Service, Achievement and the Outdoors. A Year of Celebration will take place through December 31, 2010.
The Boy Scouts support the Indianapolis Air Show annually, including troop 427 who sell programs during the show to raise money for the event. On Saturday April 10, 2010 over 300 Boy Scouts attended a Spring Camporee at Mt. Comfort Airport and had the opportunity learn about the Air Show first hand at one of their rotation sites. By participating in the Campboree, named appropriately ON A WING and A PRAYER, scouts were able to qualify to earn their Aviation Merit Badge.
Equally as exciting was a chance to fly over Mt. Comfort airport with an EAA Young Eagles volunteer. After participating in the aviation education aspect of the Campboree some scouts won collectible posters and other prizes from the Indianapolis Air Show. Scouts also enjoyed visiting Bill Thornberry’s World Wars Aircraft Museum at Mt. Comfort Airport. Bill Thornberry commented, “I was thrilled to participate in such an amazing event. Watching the scout’s faces as they learned about aviation history and then hearing them ask questions about the performer line-up for the Air Show made for an incredibly fun day.”
The Indianapolis Air Show is an annual event held at Mount Comfort Airport just east of Indianapolis (one mile north of the I-70 Mount Comfort exit). The event dates are June 11-13, 2010.
