May 30 Roberts Seminar - Learn the Art of Photographing Airplanes
Indianapolis Air Show Photo Contest Will Put Your New Skills to the Test!
(Indianapolis, Ind.) – If you’ve ever tried to photograph the high-flying performers at the Indianapolis Air Show, you know it’s no piece of cake. Fortunately, and just in time to prepare for the June 5, 6 and 7 show and its annual photo contest, help is on the horizon.
Indianapolis’ legendary Roberts Imaging is teaming up with the Air Show’s photo committee Saturday, May 30, for a seminar entitled “Photographing Airplanes and Air Shows.” Bob Burns, a published photographer who has been taking pictures of airplanes for more than 50 years, will lead the instruction.
From 9 until 11 a.m., at the Marriott East, 21st St. and Shadeland Ave., participants will learn the “ins and outs” of shooting photos of both stationary and moving airplanes. From 12:45 until 3:30 p.m., the seminar will move to Mt. Comfort Airport, home of the Indianapolis Air Show. There, if the weather cooperates, participants will have the opportunity to take pictures of aircraft on the ground and in motion.
The Air Show’s annual photo contest will be the perfect chance to put newfound photography skills to the test. Open to anyone who wants to submit a photo taken during the June 5, 6 and 7 event, prizes include a $1200 camera outfit – a camera, two lenses and vertical grip – donated by Sony, and camera bags provided by Lowepro.
The cost of the Roberts seminar is $39.97 per person. Similar to the Air Show, proceeds from the event go to children’s charities through the Central Indiana Community Foundation. To register, please call 317.636.5544. For more information, go to Roberts event info page.

The world-renowned U.S. Navy Blue Angels are headlining the show. They will be joined by the Golden Knights – the Army’s top-notch parachute team – as well as a wide variety of current and historic military aircraft. Also confirmed for 2009 are numerous civilian acts featuring wingwalkers, pyrotechnicans and more that will keep you on the edge of your seat!
