Navy Week Opening Ceremonies at War Memorial
INDIANAPOLIS, IN — August 19, 2007 — The Navy Club of Indianapolis will sponsor a special reception and opening ceremony for the Indianapolis Navy Week at the Indiana War Memorial as part, Monday August 20, 2007.
The reception will be held in conjunction with the permanent opening of the USS Indianapolis Museum and the opening ceremonies for the Indy Navy Week hosted by the Navy Club of Indianapolis.
Rear Admiral Gerald R. Beaman, a native Hoosier and Commander, Strike Force Training Pacific, will be on hand to welcome the visitors to the reception as well as survivors of the USS Indianapolis (CA 35). The museum represents years of effort by the survivors to create a piece of living history for current and future generations to understand the sacrifices made by many on behalf of freedom for our nation.
The official proclamation is set to begin at 6:00 p.m. so that many will be able to come directly to the War Memorial right from their work day location. All Navy veterans, active duty and reserve Navy personnel will be invited to attend the reception from 6:30-to-8:00 p.m.
The Navy Club of Indianapolis is a part of Navy Club USA and is a strong supporter of the USS Indianapolis Museum and work diligently to assist local recruiters for the U.S. Navy. This is their second year hosting this special kick-off reception to begin Navy Week.
Indianapolis Navy Week is one of 26 Navy weeks planned across America in 2007. Navy weeks are designed to show Americans the investment they have made in their Navy and increase awareness in cities that do not have a significant Navy presence.
