Statewide School Fundraiser To Promote Camp Riley
INDIANAPOLIS, IN — August 6, 2007 — The Indianapolis Air Show announced a joint venture with the Indiana Association of School Principals for a statewide school fundraising campaign that will take place during the month of August to benefit the Kids Caring & Sharing for Riley Hospital. Kids Caring & Sharing is a Special Project of the IASP and the fundraiser will involve participating schools throughout Indiana.
This year marks the 11th year that the Indianapolis Air Show has donated its proceeds to Riley Hospital for Children. In 2006, through the generosity of a Central Indiana Community Foundation fund, the Air Show donated more than $130,000 to Indianapolis’ Riley Hospital for Children, bringing the total contributed to the hospital to more than $1 million since the show’s inception in 1997.
The Kids Caring & Sharing Board is a standing IASP committee made up of principals from each of the association’s 12 districts. These representatives serve as advisors to the Kids Caring & Sharing Coordinators, assist in recruiting schools and share information about Riley Hospital and the program with principals in their own districts and beyond.
The statewide school fundraising project resulting from the joint venture will directly benefit Camp Riley which is located in Bradford Woods on the southside of Indianapolis. Camp Riley has been in operation since 1955 and it is recognized leader in adaptive outdoor recreation and adventure challenge programming. For many of Indiana’s children with physical disabilities, Camp Riley has become an annual tradition offering recreational activities such as swimming, horseback riding and canoeing.
Last year, a school fundraising project by Fall Creek Intermediate students generated $16,000 in donations which benefited Riley Hospital for Children. This year, through the joint venture with IASP, the Indianapolis Air Show is expecting to increase the donation amount substantially while also encouraraging and engaging Indiana’s students.
The 2007 Indianapolis Air Show is set to take to the skies August 25th & 26th and will feature the US Navy Blue Angels as its headlining flight performers, with the Navy’s parachute team, and the Leap Frogs will also join the excitement.
