Interactive Gaming Exhibit Allows You to Test Drive Army
Virtual Army Experience allows participants to simulate combat situations
INDIANAPOLIS, IN — July 31, 2007 — When you’re at the Indianapolis Air Show this year, don’t be surprised if, in addition to the roar of airplanes overhead, you hear the rumbling of a military Humvee or two, as well.
The U.S. Armys Virtual Army Experience is coming to the 2007 Air Show at Mt. Comfort Airport, Aug. 25 and 26. An innovative gaming exhibit, it’s designed to be high-tech, team-based and action-packed.
VAE participants are immersed in a 15 to 20 minute simulated combat situation, beginning with a briefing of their mission in a model Joint Operations Center. There, they are brought up to speed on the weapons and equipment they’ll be using, and their specific roles.
Next, the soldiers enter the virtual combat area, where they’ll be part of a convoy running a high-value target extraction mission a mission aimed at getting rid of a target that would seriously damage enemy functions. While in a military vehicle, participants will feel blasts of air and shaky ground beneath them, just as one would on the battlefield.
Wrapping up the realistic adventure, VAE participants will receive an After Action Review that evaluates their performances based on their simulation scores.
The VAE will be housed at the Air Show in a 150 by 130 foot domed building that will also feature 12 laptop gaming stations where you can play the America’s Army video game.
The U.S. Navy Blue Angels are the headlining flight performers for this year’s Air Show, with the Navy’s parachute team the Leap Frogs also joining the excitement. The Army’s Sky Soldiers will thrill the crowds, too, with combat veterans taking to the skies in Cobra Attack helicopters.
Net proceeds from the Indianapolis Air Show go to Riley Hospital for Children, through the generosity of a Central Indiana Community Foundation fund. In 2006, the Air Show donated more than $130,000 to the hospital, bringing its total contribution to more than $1 million since the show’s inception in 1997.
